The Sugi Tap (pronounced sue-gee tap) was an alternative rock/power-pop band formed in May of 2005. The band primarily played in Southern California venues, with the slightly altered Eve 6 line-up of Max on vocals and guitar, and Tony on drums, accompanied by backing musical tracks, with very sparse electronic elements. They disbanded in late 2007 when it was announced that Max and Tony would be reforming Eve 6. Band Members * Max Collins sings lead vocals and plays guitar. History Max Collins and Tony Fagenson were previously in a popular band with Jon Siebels called Eve 6. For nearly a year after the announcement that the two were working together, no news was heard. In late-spring/early-summer of 2006, the first update was given to the old Eve 6 community, and the first dates for shows posted. Don Gilmore (the producer of Eve 6's first two albums) is involved with the group, albeit from "afar." The band has around 15 recorded demos, of varying quality. On October 6, 2007, Max and Tony said that they were resuming work under the name Eve 6, and that The Sugi Tap was now "paused indefinitely". MySpace Involvement Since the summer of 2006, the Sugi Tap were involved with the popular networking site MySpace, promising the release of some demos the band had recorded, as soon as the Sugi Tap hit the 1,000 friends mark on MySpace. This was accomplished quickly and the songs "Pick up the Pieces" and "Mr. Bones" were made public. "Mr. Bones" is a reworked song from Max's short-lived solo project, Brotherhood of Lost Dogs. "Familiar Face" and "Victoria;" two other Brotherhood of Lost Dogs songs have been confirmed as Sugi Tap songs, though the demos of these two songs have not been made available. A blog entry on the band's MySpace shortly after the release promised another song to be posted when their friends count hit 3,000. That song is now out and it is called "Good Associate". The final MySpace song came out much earlier as a surprise. Originally slated to be released once the Sugi Tap's friends counter hit 7373, "Little Tiny Everything" was made available over 3,000 friends prior to that mark. However, once this song was released, all four were changed to stream only, with downloading being disabled. The reason given by the band is that the downloads should be viewed as a gift for early supporters of the band. On December 14, 2006, the Sugi Tap announced that their up coming EP would contain five tracks and was to be released in February of 2007. After a few delays, the EP was released digitally on March 21st, 2007, containing slightly reworked versions of Pick Up the Pieces, Mr. Bones, Good Associate, Little Tiny Everything, and BOLD, with a new song titled "Red & Black" included. The Myspace site still exists at www.myspace.com/sugitap Performances The Sugi Tap played shows in Southern California and Arizona, consistently keeping in touch with the fan community. Though the actual band only consists of two members, during shows they have experimented by performing with additional musicians. Albums The Sugi Tap announced that they will release a 5-track EP in February 2007 exclusively to the Myspace music store. A CD version was planned for release later that year, but it never happened. The DIGITAL EP was finally released on March 21st, 2007. For a limited time it was able to be purchased through their myspace via the Snocap music service. The Sugi Tap EP (3/21/07) - Mr. Bones - Little Tiny Everything - Pick Up The Pieces - Red & Black - B.O.L.D. - Good Associate Other Songs While Tony has stated that there are roughly 15 songs, only a select
few have been named. Max has also remarked that the original "Can of Worms" (a Brotherhood of Lost Dogs song) will "probably" become a Sugi Tap song. Asterisk denotes that song has been confirmed/played live, but no recording (as of yet) is available. (Note: A short live clip of Peace of Mind was available, but a full version, live or studio, has yet to be released. Additionally, Familiar Face was available as a live recording with Max's previous band, Brotherhood of Lost Dogs.) Trivia "Sugi Tap" is taken from the Japanese comic Battle Royale. The official name for the band is now, once again, THE Sugi Tap. (Having briefly switched the name to simply "Sugi Tap.")

Brotherhood of Lost Dogs was a short-lived band formed in mid-2004 by former Eve 6 frontman Max Collins, Brian Young of Fountains of Wayne and The Posies, and Joe "Bass" Howard formerly of The Posies. The group was disbanded around May 2005 without ever releasing any recorded material. Beginning in June 2005, Max Collins has teamed up with former Eve 6 drummer/vocalist Tony Fagenson to start a new project, tentatively titled The Sugi Tap. The semi-offical Brotherhood Of Lost Dogs website still exists, hosted by Eve 6 Media HQ at http://eve6mediahq.com/bold
